For those with rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, spondylitis, and lupus, renowned rheumatologist Neal S. Birnbaum, M.D., is now seeing patients at the Ukiah Valley Rural Health Center to help those who suffer from these painful conditions. While new to the UVRHC, Dr. Birnbaum is hardly a stranger to Ukiah since he’s been holding rheumatology clinics at Ukiah Valley Medical Center for more than 20 years.
Dr. Birnbaum’s primary practice is in San Francisco. He is Director of the Division of Rheumatology at California Pacific Medical Center and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco.
Dr. Birnbaum teaches rheumatology to medical residents at CPMC and lectures frequently to practicing physicians across the United States. He has published scientific articles in many medical journals and co-authored a book for patients entitled, “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Arthritis”. Additionally, he has received many top honors including being named to “Best Doctors in America”. In 2011, Dr. Birnbaum was named a Master of the American College of Rheumatology in recognition of his contributions to the field of rheumatology.
When asked what his specific interest is Dr. Birnbaum said, “I enjoy seeing patients across the full spectrum of rheumatic diseases,” which is good news for those coping with arthritis and related disorders.
Dr. Birnbaum began seeing patients in April at the Ukiah Valley Rural Health Center at 260 Hospital Drive, suite 103, in Ukiah. Patients need to be referred to Dr.Birnbaum by their local primary care provider. To schedule an appointment please call 707-463-7490.
